Photograph taken in the late summer (term began on August 15) or early fall of 1904 of students attending school in Tweedside, District No. 6, Parish of Manners Sutton, Harvey Station, York County, New Brunswick. The students in the second and third rows are unevenly arranged making the caption description difficult. Explanatory notes are provided for some students below to help determine placement. Copies of the school register for the Tweedside school are in existence for 1901-1908 (including 1904) and provide an excellent demographic snapshot of the area during the first decade of the 20th century. According to the register there were 36 children in the Tweedside School catchment area between the ages of 6 and 15, of which 32 attended school at least part of the timeu. Many of the absent children were older and tended to have very spotty attendance records as they were probably needed to work at home. Image courtesy of Hazen Patterson (August, 1985).
