The building at the corner of Route 645 and Lake Road in Lake George has a long and varied history. Originally a Methodist Church, the land for the church was purchased from the Lawson family in 1854, although the exact date of construction remains unknown. Following the Methodist Church’s union with the United Church in 1925, the building was no longer needed as a place of worship, as a former Presbyterian church across the street became the new United Church. Over the years, the building found new purposes, first serving as a dance hall and later as a hall for the local agricultural society. It may have been vacant for a period before being renovated in the 1970s or 1980s by the United Church to function as a Christian Education Center. By the 1990s, it was still being used for community events, but today, it appears to serve only as storage. Despite its changing roles, the building remains a part of Lake George’s cultural and historical landscape.
