The Harvey Settlement was established by settlers from the River Tweed area of the Scottish/English border who came on the ship, the Cornelius of Sunderland in 1837. They were originally to settle in the Stanley, New Brunswick area but the promised land was no longer available. The then governor of New Brunswick, Sir John Harvey, found them a tract of land near what is now known as the Village of Harvey. Immigrants from that area continued to come and settled in what became known as Tweedside. An extensive history of those settlers can be found on the website harveysettlers.org compiled by Tim Patterson. The Parish of Manners Sutton was established in 1855 and named for Sir John Henry Thomas Manners-Sutton, lieutenant- governor of New Brunswick from 1854-1861. Manners Sutton later became a Local Service District.
