Medical doctor specializing in anesthesiology, key contributor to ground- breaking research on interactions between anesthetics and cardiac surgery
Emerson Amos Moffitt was born on September 9, 1924 in Harvey, N.B. and grew up in McAdam, N.B.
During his medical career he became interested in the less than perfect use of ether or chloroform as an anesthetic for patients undergoing operations. This interest eventually led to his teaching of new and advanced anesthetic practices to other medical professionals.
His knowledge led to the first provincial guidelines for the practice of anesthesia in Nova Scotia. It was copied across Canada.
He passed away at the age of 86 in Halifax, N.S.
